Confirmed 22 Oct 2026 · Capital A one-minute read

A SpaceX filing shows one customer went from under 10% to 34.5% of revenue.

SpaceX filed the figure on October 22 and it surfaced on October 29, when Bloomberg reported the customer is Anthropic. Caveat: the filing names no customer.

Until now

SpaceX sells launches and satellite internet to many buyers.

Now

One AI company is now its largest single source of revenue.

Why it matters

Concentration runs both ways. One customer at 34.5% of revenue and 27.7% of receivables means the AI segment has a single anchor tenant. Reported terms let that tenant leave on 90 days' notice from early 2027. The $40 billion of chip debt SpaceX closed in October was raised to serve it.

Established

  • Customer B was 34.5% of SpaceX's consolidated revenue in the quarter.
  • The same customer was below 10% in both 2025 periods.
  • One customer held 27.7% of accounts receivable at September 30.

Not established

  • That SpaceX named the customer. The filing calls it Customer B.
  • The contract value. That figure comes from Anthropic's prospectus.
  • The revenue in dollars. SpaceX gives percentages only.

The record

Space Exploration Technologies Corp., ticker SPCX, filed a Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 on October 22, 2026, accession 0001628280-26-066880. We read it at sec.gov. Under Concentration of risk: Customer A at 16.6% of consolidated revenue for the 3 months and 17.3% for the 9 months, against 23.9% and 21.6% a year earlier. Customer B at 34.5% for the 3 months and 24.2% for the 9 months, against a footnote for both 2025 periods reading "Customer did not represent more than 10% of consolidated revenue for the period." The filing states: "Revenue from Customer A relates to all three segments and revenue from Customer B relates to the SI segment." No other customer passed 10% in either year. As of September 30, 2026, "one customer represented 27.7% of Accounts receivable, net," where none passed 10% at December 31, 2025. Backlog is given as $62,959 million, of which $17,520 million sits as deferred revenue, with about 67% expected within one year, 27% in one to 3 years and 6% thereafter. The filing never names Customer B. Reported, not read by us: Bloomberg reported on October 29, 2026, citing a person familiar with the matter, that Customer B is Anthropic, that Anthropic's payments have passed those of the United States federal government, previously SpaceX's largest customer, and that the capacity sits at data centres in Memphis, Tennessee. Reported from Anthropic's prospectus rather than SpaceX's filing: contracted spending of as much as $120.5 billion running to 2029, about $3.1 billion a month from December, with a right to terminate on 90 days' notice from early 2027. Anthropic declined to comment and SpaceX did not respond. This card is dated October 22, the filing date, and not October 29: the identification is what surfaced late, not the disclosure. Not established by the filing: the customer's identity, the contract terms, and the revenue in dollars.

How it got here

  1. Oct 6

Edition 044 carded SpaceX seeking $40 billion of debt, led by Apollo, to buy Nvidia chips. Edition 062 carded the close on October 25, with SpaceX saying the market had shut for everyone else.

  2. Oct 20

Edition 057 carded the earnings release: the SI segment became SpaceX's largest business and turned its first operating profit. The release named no customer.

  3. Oct 22

SpaceX filed the Form 10-Q carrying the concentration note: Customer B at 34.5% of quarterly revenue, from below the 10% line a year earlier, and one customer at 27.7% of receivables.

  4. Oct 26

Edition 063 carded Anthropic's Form S-1, which disclosed $16.3 billion of revenue and $80.7 billion of losses. The prospectus is the source of the reported $120.5 billion of compute contracts.

  5. Oct 29

Bloomberg reported that Customer B is Anthropic. Neither company confirmed it. The filing had been public for 7 days.

Who has to react

SpaceX's lenders on the $40 billion chip facility, whose collateral now has one paying tenant; Anthropic's prospective public investors; the Tesla and SpaceX merger committees carded in Edition 057; Nvidia; Memphis utilities; and the United States government, no longer the largest customer.

What to watch

  • Would strengthen itSpaceX's fourth quarter report shows Customer B above 30% of revenue again, or any SpaceX or Anthropic filing names the counterparty, by March 31, 2027.
  • Would weaken itCustomer B falls below 20% of quarterly revenue, or SpaceX discloses that the arrangement was terminated or materially resized, by December 31, 2027.
  • Would strengthen itA second listed company discloses a single AI compute customer above 25% of its revenue, by June 30, 2027.

Why it weighs this much

Signal strength
CostLow
CommitmentHigh
ReversibilityLow
PersistenceYear

Cost is low: a concentration note is a required disclosure, not a chosen act, and costs only the embarrassment of publishing it. Commitment is high, because the figure sits in a signed quarterly report that cannot be withdrawn and will be restated next quarter. Reversibility is low in the sense that matters: the revenue dependence it records is a fact about the quarter, and a company cannot un-earn a third of its revenue from one buyer. Persistence is a year rather than structural, because the 9 month figure is 24.2% and a single quarter of diversification would change the picture.

The words

Concentration of risk
A required disclosure naming any customer above 10% of revenue. It warns investors that losing one buyer would change the business.
Accounts receivable
Money billed but not yet collected. One customer at 27.7% of it means the incoming cash depends on that customer paying.
Backlog
Contracted revenue not yet recognised. SpaceX puts it at $62,959 million and expects about 67% of it inside a year.
