Reported 4 Nov 2026 · Agents A one-minute read

AI agents booked 4 Uber rides in the company's busiest week of October.

Uber's chief executive and finance chief gave the figure on the November 4 call. About 500 Uber Eats orders came through agents in the same week.

Until now

Agents are starting to buy real services for real people.

Now

At the largest marketplace, that is 4 rides in a peak week.

Why it matters

Agentic commerce has had a year of launches, protocols and partnerships. Here is its measured output at the biggest venue: 4 rides. Khosrowshahi gives the reason without saying it, noting a ride takes 50 seconds to book by hand. An agent has to beat 50 seconds to be worth anything.

Established

  • Uber's executives put agent-booked rides at 4 in the week of Halloween.
  • About 500 Uber Eats orders came through agents in the same week.
  • Total volume that week was about 320 million trips and orders.

Not established

  • That agents cannot sell rides. Few assistants have Uber wired in.
  • The whole category. Uber is 1 marketplace, however large.
  • Which assistants Uber works with. No partner was named on the call.

The record

Reported, not verified: the figures were given on Uber's third quarter earnings call on November 4 and are not in the press release or the Form 10-Q, both of which we read at sec.gov and which contain no mention of agents. The account rests on TechCrunch, which names both speakers, with transcripts at Motley Fool and Benzinga. Dated test: Uber's fourth quarter results, due by March 1, 2027, either repeat an agent figure or do not.

Uber reported third quarter results on November 4, 2026 and held its earnings call the same day. On the call, as reported by TechCrunch at 1:56pm Pacific time, chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi said that during the company's busiest week of October, the week of Halloween, 4 rides were ordered through an AI agent, and about 500 Uber Eats orders were placed by an agent. Chief financial officer Balaji Krishnamurthy put total volume that week at about 320 million trips and orders across Uber and Uber Eats. On the ratio implied, agent-placed rides were roughly 1 in every tens of millions of trips. Khosrowshahi described it as very, very early and very limited traction, said the company hopes for more, called agents another opportunity to reach the platform, and said he expects them to be a net positive for demand. He said about 8 major AI assistants are on the market and that he expects more than 10 over time, and that every single AI system company is talking to Uber. He also gave a friction figure: booking a ride in the app takes about 50 seconds, and reordering a favourite meal about 90 seconds. TechCrunch reports that DoorDash disclosed only a few hundred agent-placed orders the previous week. The quarter itself, from the release filed as Exhibit 99.1 to a Form 8-K and read at sec.gov: gross bookings of $59.8 billion, up 20%; revenue of $14.8 billion, up 10%; trips of 4.1 billion, up 16%; income from operations of $1.4 billion, up 30%; adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of $3.0 billion, up 31%; and free cash flow of $2.5 billion. Khosrowshahi said in the release that the focus on autonomous driving is now on commercial execution, with about 700 fully driverless vehicles expected on Uber by year end and more than 2,000 in 2027. Neither the release nor the 10-Q uses the word agent.

  3. Nov 4

Who has to react

OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and SpaceXAI, each shipping agents that were meant to buy things; the payment networks building agent rails; DoorDash, with a few hundred orders of its own; the standards groups writing agentic commerce protocols; and investors who paid for the category.

What to watch

  • Would weaken itUber, DoorDash or another consumer marketplace discloses more than 100,000 agent-placed orders in a week, in results or on a call, by December 31, 2027.
  • Would strengthen itUber announces a transacting integration with a named AI assistant and its agent volumes rise by more than 100 times within 2 quarters of it, by December 31, 2027.
  • Would strengthen itUber's reported agent-placed volumes remain below 10,000 a week in every disclosure through September 30, 2027, or it stops disclosing them.

Why it weighs this much

Signal strength
CostLow
CommitmentMedium
ReversibilityHigh
PersistenceQuarter

Cost is low: a company volunteered an unflattering number about a partner category on a call, which costs little except candour. Commitment is medium, because an executive's figure on a recorded earnings call binds the company more than a blog post would, and because the comparison with 320 million trips came from the finance chief in the same session. Reversibility is high, since the count could change by orders of magnitude next quarter and management plainly expects it to. Persistence is 1 quarter: this is a measurement, not a structure. What gives the card its weight is not the dial but the subject, because almost nothing else in agentic commerce has a denominator.

The words

Agentic commerce
Software that places orders and pays on a person's behalf, rather than filling a form for them. The whole case for it is that buying becomes one instruction.
Gross bookings
The total value of everything transacted on the platform, before Uber's own cut. Uber's revenue is a slice of it.
